About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Malaysian Transit in Shanghai flying to Tokyo

Hi! I am Malaysian.
I will be flying to Tokyo and transit in Shanghai.

Since the transit time is 12hours, I am thinking to leave the airport for a half day trip in Shanghai.
Is this possible?

Please advise.

Malaysians must have a type G visa for transit regardless of final destination, so if you have a visa you can leave the airport.
