About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flying to Shanghai, Train to Beijing and then Flight To Europe

I'm British. I want to fly from Taipei, Taiwan to Shanghai, and then get a train from Shanghai to Beijing. In Beijing I will fly to Europe. Since I will leave Shanghai in order to get to Beijing, can I still get the transit G type?

I think a condition of the 72 hours is transiting by plane only, because they are very strict on what province you may stay within and not permitted to venture it.

Yes, you need a visa in advance. You can't use free transit.
