I am planning to travel with my family to Shanghai from Las Vegas, arriving Sept 1, and departing Sept 3Will the transit policy apply to me and my family or will I need to obtain a VISA?

Branavan, if you will travel to a third country or region rather than US after transiting in Shanghai, you can enjoy the 144 hour free transit there. No need to apply for a visa in advance.
