About:China Visa Application in UK

I am a UK passport holder, flying into Beijing and then flying out from Hong Kong.

Towards the end of my trip I am flying from Shanghai to Macau then taking ferry to Hong Kong, so the date of my exit from China to put on my visa application..does it need to be the date I leave Shanghai or the date I leave Hong Kong, as I wasn't sure what the rules were regarding the SAR status of Macau/Hong Kong.
