Flying to Shanghai to board cruise ship but not returning to Shanghai

Hello! If we are traveling to Shanghai to board a cruise ship but will NOT be returning to Shanghai from the voyage - what is the best option? Travel will include arriving the day before to stay in a hotel before the ship departs. Thank you for any help!

You are eligible for the visa-free transit, because you will clear outbound immigration at the cruise terminal and once completed are considered as to have left China. It doesn't matter if you return to China once you've left.
