About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flying from Bali via layover in Taipei on Eva to LA with US passport.

My question is there anything special needed when going to 144 hour transit visa line? will extend my layover on Eva flight in Taipei and book a roundtrip to Shanghai from Taipei. can i fly into either shanghai airport or just PVG?

If you are booking a roundtrip TPE-SHA-TPE that's not a transit at all. So you need to apply for a visa in advance.
