About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hello I am a us citizen. I am flying to Bangkok for 2 weeks.

On the way back I am stopping in Beijing. I have a 34 hour lay over. can I use the 72 hour visa to visit the city? On our flight home we have a 1 hour layover in shanghai then back to the us

If your flight from Thailand to USA has two stops in China (Shanghai and Beijing) then you cannot use the 72 hour free transit. You can have 24 hours direct transit in China. For more than 24 hours you need to apply for a visa in advance.
