Flight to shanghai, separate flights to usa

Hi,

Im a US citizen living in Korea. Due to price and other logistics, I booked two separate flights, one from korea to shanghai, and one from shanghai to San francisco. So it is not a official layover. Do I still need a visa for this? The time between the two flights is less than 24 hrs.

Thanks.

David, no, you don’t need a visa for that because you can use the 24 hour direct transit in Shanghai.
