About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

The flights are on different tickets and different airlines, am I eligible for the 24-hour visa-free

If I book my flight from Hanoi to Guangzhou with China Eastern Airlines, and then separately book another flight from Guangzhou to Seoul with Korean Air — meaning the flights are on different tickets and different airlines, not a connecting flight on the same airline — and I have a layover of 12 hours, am I eligible for the 24-hour visa-free transit policy in China?

Also, since the flights are with different airlines, I may not have a physical (paper) ticket, only an e-ticket confirmation or online check-in. Would that be acceptable?

Hoa, your intention is definitely in line with 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. It is and it always was acceptable to travel on two separate tickets and unrelated airlines. The recommendation is to print out your flight tickets or better to say flight booking confirmations that were sent to your email inbox. At the moment of your check-in in Hanoi you will declare that you are traveling to Seoul via Guangzhou under 24 hour visa free transit and in the same time you will provide a proof i.e. your ticket from Guangzhou to Seoul. After a short check, you will be allowed to board the plane. Upon your landing in Guangzhou the first thing that you will do will be to approach 24/240 hour visa free transit with filled out arrival card where you will tick - transit. At the transit counter you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight tickets. Again, after a short check, you will be granted a temporary entry permit and then you will cross the immigration in order to collect your luggage and after some time to perform new check-in for your flight to Seoul. As you can see, you are good to go and I wish you a pleasant journey.
