About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

I will be flying from Bangkok to Beijing for 3 days,

then Beijing to USA with a 17 hour layover in Chengdu. Can I use the 72 hour visa exemption in Beijing and then the 24 hour exemption in Chengdu? I would like to leave the airport in Chengdu and see the city while I am there.

Laura, you cannot use the 72 hour free transit because the 72 hour policy only allows the traveler to transit in one Chinese city. You should apply for a visa in advance for that.
