layovers in NKG & KMG

Hi im flying from Canada to Sri Lanka with a 2 hour layover in NKG, then I have a 21hr layover in KMG. Will the 72 hour free transit cover me as the layover in KMG is overnight? or because i'm stopping in two cities do I need to apply for a visa?

Same flight on the way back as well just in reverse.
