Extending Work Visa or Applying for a Tourist L type

I am an English citizen currently living in Changsha where I have been working for the past year. My Work Z type runs out on July 5th but I would like to either extend that or apply for a tourist L type that will allow me to stay until August. What is the best course of action and what are the prices involved in that?

Bob, if you won’t work anymore, I’m afraid you cannot extend the work Z type. You can try to change the tourist L type to a work Z type at the exit and entry administration of the local PSB. It may cost CNY304. Just for reference. The final payment is subject to the actual payment given by the consular officers.
