About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hi, I'm having a booking Amsterdam - Shanghai

and back Taipei - Amsterdam + one way ticket Shanghai - Taipei. Flying: AMS - HKG - PVG - TPE - HKG - AMS. Do I need a visa since the one way ticket (PVG - TPE) is a separate booking?

Rob, if your total layover time in Shanghai is within 144 hours, you don't need to apply for it then. The separate booking will not affect that.

Thanks Jamie. I read that need to inform upfront that I want to make use of the 144h visa free rule. Any info where/who to inform? Can't seem to find any info on this.

Try googling Shanghai Immigration.

You just need to inform your airline at Amsterdam and/or Hong Kong. When they check your passport for a visa, you tell them that you are in transit without visa, and show them your confirmed onward ticket to Taipei. Hundreds of people do it every day, it's nothing special.
