Need for Visa for Australian passport holder for 1 day in Shanghai on cruise ship

Do I need it for a one day visit to Shanghai on a cruise ship in April or am I covered by the 144 hr free scheme? Do I need to apply for the 144 hr free transit at the port on the day I arrive or do you think that our ship will pre organise it?

If you visit Shanghai on cruise ship from one country to another country, you will qualify for the 144 hour free transit. You need to inform the cruise company that you want to use the free transit in Shanghai.
