About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

More info about the 144h visa exemption for GuangZhou

I'm French, travelling with my family to New Zealand with a 4 day (72.5 h) transit in GuangZhou.

The airline company (Southern China Airlines) told me I need to get a visa if it's more than 72 h. The Chinese embassy pointed me to a website (visaforchina.org), which does not seem up to date (the 144h exemption is never mentioned, even for Shangai)

Where can I find a confirmation of the 144h exemption for Guangzhou? I need to be sure that this is applicable, and convince the airline that I don't need a visa, or they wont let us board in.-

Hi David, the 144-hour free transit information can be found on the website of the Entry and Exit Administration of Guangdong PSB, but the website has not English version. You can contact Baiyun Airport to get a confirmation.

By the way, even if the 144-hour free transit has not been adopted yet, I don't think you need the entry permit because the 72-hour limit counts from 00:00 of the day after your arrival. So actually you can stay longer than 72 hours. The airline seems to intend to avoid risks.

The 72h exemption does not apply to me, as when I indicated I was staying 72.5h, it was already taking into account the 00.00 rule. We will arrive there on Jan 31st at 06:20, and leave on Feb 4th at 00:30...
