About:Shanghai 15-day Visa-free Policy for Cruise Tour Groups

Do I need a Visa or is the 144h exception valid.

I have a german passport and traveling by cruise. We will start with a few ports in Japan and then staying for one night in shanghai and then we will leave with the cruiseship to ports in Japan and taiwan. The end of our cruise will be Hongkong. Then we will fly back to germany. Do we need a Visa for shanghai and Do we have to book a tour?

Kerstin, as you leave from Japan to Shanghai and then go back to Japan with the cruise, I'm afraid you are not eligible for the 144hrs free transit. Therefore, if you want to save the cost for a visa, you need to book a tour in advance and ensure that you will received by a tour agency upon arrival in Shanghai.
