canadian passport holder transit to shanghai from pudong airport (transit time 21 hours) from bangkok to toronto and transit time 1.50 hours at pudong airport from toronto to bangkok.Do i need to apply for transit visa? what type?Can i go out and spend a night inside shanghai city for the 21 hours transit time?

John, you don’t need to apply for transit entry permit because you are eligible for the 24 hour direct transit at Pudong airport in both directions. You can apply for a temporary stay permit at Pudong airport and then you can go out of the airport to spend a night inside Shanghai city for 21 hours transit time. The stay permit is free of charge.
