day tour in beijing

Question

Hi! I am going to the Philippines and I have a 10 hour layover in Beijing. I am thinking of taking the 24-hours visa transit.  Do you have any advice on thetype of transportation I should use? And which places I can manage to see. My flight arrives at 10am and leaves at around 8pm. Thinking first of taking the subwayto see the forbidden palace. Do you think its worth taking the cab? And can you pleaseinform me the cab-situation in Beijing. Anything I should think about? Thank you :)

It is not suggested to take taxi or bus from the airport to downtown due to the traffic reason. I think subway is the first choice. You can take Airport Express to Dongzhimen, change to subway line 2 (Inner Ring) to Jianguomen Station, then change to line 1 (Pingguoyuan direction) and get off at Tiananmen East Station, get of the staion from exit A and you will reach the Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. The whole ride takes around 1.5 hours. The visiting time for Forbidden City is about 3-4 hours. After that, get back to the airport at least two hours prior to your onward flight departure.
