30 day visa free travel NEW ZEALAND --> DALIAN --> HARBIN --> VLADIVOSTOK

Hi there.
I am planning travel as a New Zealand passport holder, departing from NZ to Dalian, China. In Dalian I will spend 3-4 days, before taking a bullet train to Harbin, and spending a further 3-4 days in Harbin. After Harbin, I will be taking a bus to Vladivostok.

The bullet train tickets and bus tickets I presume will need to be booked before I first enter China, to show the authorities proof of my purpose of stay in China. However, it would be significantly easier to book them when I am already in China. Can I do such thing?

Also, the travel from Dalian to Harbin via bullet train crosses provinces; in regards to the 30-day visa free policy, is this allowed? How will the authorities at the airport in Dalian be able to confirm that I am indeed carrying out my intended travel?

Finally, if I travel by bus from Harbin to Vladivostok, does this count as private transport? Do I need any documents upon nearing China's border?

Much appreciated,
Marianna.

Hi, Marianna,
1. You can enter China visa free as a New Zealand citizen, and your specific transportation information such as your train for traveling from Dalian to Harbin is not that necessary when going through the customs. So, you can book tickets after you enter.
2. It’s allowed. Actually, you can travel to most cities within Mainland China freely except for a few designated areas such as Tibet (requiring additional documents).
3. You can leave in any way of transportation. Just go through the customs at the border city, and no additional documents are required for exit.
