About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

flying in and out of shanghai

I fly from new York to shanghai and want to stay less than 72 hours then to go to bali and return to shanghai en route back to ny. the ny-pvg-pvg is one itinerary and the pvg- bali- pvg is another. do I need a visa ?
also if I fly in to shanghai from nyc (usa) stay less than 72 hours and return to Toronto (Canada) do I need it?

Hey Mark, no, you don't need the transit permit. If you fly into Shanghai from US and then return to Canada, you can also enjoy the 144-hour free transit rule.
