About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

cruise ship from/to Shanghai

Me (german) anf my sister (bulgarian) both EU-citizen are going to join a trip on a cruise ship starting from Shanghai to Japan, South Korea (and other countries)... and finally back to Shanghai.

On arrival day in Shanghai we will have one night in a Hotel. Next day the ship is sailing out of the country.

The cruise is 21 days long and during this time the ship will visit Shanghai a couple of times for 1-day-stay … on every 4-th day within the trip. On the last day we are flying back to our country from Shanghai.

Do we need a VISA or we can use the 144-hours transit stay?
Thank You beforehand!

If you fly to Shanghai to join the cruise ship, you can enjoy the free transit there.
When the ship finally arrives in shanghai, and you fly back to your country from Shanghai, you can enjoy the free transit.
As for other entries to Shanghai during the 21-day long cruise tour, because you will enter and leave by the same cruise ship company, you may need to apply for an entry permit in advance. You are advised to confirm that with the cruise ship company. If it is needed, you are advised to apply for a multiple-entry tourist L type or transit G type.

Dear, you’d better confirm that with the cruise ship company because you may not be allowed to board the cruise if you don’t have valid entry permit.
