Free transit policy at Guangzhou airport

We will be flying as a family (Romanian and Japanese passports) through Guangzhou airport twice, having 13 and 20 hours layovers respectively. Do we need to apply for visa (eligible for 72-h policy) and/or free hotel at the airport in advance? Where to ask at the airport on arrival? Thank you

Mihaela, if the country you fly from is different from the country you fly to before landing in Guangzhou, you will be eligible for the 24 hour direct transit in Guangzhou. No visa will be needed.
If you want to stay at a hotel, after arrival, you should go to the immigration counter and apply for a free temporary stay permit and then you can stay at a hotel without visa.
