About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

US to Shanghai to US

I am traveling from the US to Shanghai for 6 days and then returning to the US. Do I need to cancel my return ticket and instead fly to another country to qualify?

If so, you cannot enjoy the free transit in Shanghai. I’m afraid you need to cancel your return ticket and you are advised to travel like this US-Shanghai-HK-US. In this case, you will be able to make use of the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai.
