About:China Visa on Arrival

Visa on arival

We are living abroad and there's no Chinese embassy on our island. We hold Canadian passports, with limited time can we apply for visa on arrival when we land in China. We'll be flying in to HongKong on the weekend so most offices will be closed then going to other countries. Our exit airport is Beijing. We were planning to say in China 3 day on the 72hour visa but would like to fly into another city and take express train to Beijing making our stay in China for about a week. Let me know what our options are and if we have any possibility of applying for a visa on arrival or we are stuck with the 3 day visa allowing us just to visit Beijing and no other places in China.

Thanks!

Jakub, it mainly depends on which city you will land. Usually, you can apply for VOA in Shenzhen, Zhuhai, or Hainan.
For other cities, you cannot apply for VOA unless you have to enter PRC under emergency situations.
If you fly to Beijing from HK, and after visiting Beijing for 3 days, you will go to a third country or region, in this case, you can enjoy the 72 hour free transit in Beijing.
If you just go to another city from Beijing and then and take express train to Beijing again, I’m afraid you cannot enjoy the 72 hour free transit. A tourist L type is needed and you should apply for it in advance in Canada or in United Kingdom.

Thank you for the answer so if we land in HongKong we can apply for China Tourist visa on arrival? This will allow us to travel other countries and return to China for example Shanghai and then fly out of Beijing? We live in Bermuda and there is no Chinese embassy here to send our passports to. We dont want to send them for too long Incase they don't comeback in time we'll not be able to travel at all.

You can enjoy free entry to HK for a stay of not exceeding 90 days, but you cannot get Chinese tourist L visa upon arrival. If you don’t have HK residence permit, it’s not easy for you to apply for mainland PRC visa from there. You are advised to apply for the visa beforehand.
Of course, if you can get a visa for mainland PRC, you can enter Shanghai and then exit from Beijing.
