About:China Visa on Arrival

I'm flying to Shanghai from Kunming, and then flying out to Tokyo. (

My entire route is Kolkata - Kunming - Shanghai - Tokyo.
Can I transfer without getting out of the airport, or will I need to get a visa? (My transit time is less than 24 hours, so the only concern is if I have to leave the airport.)
Thanks in advance!

Ritam, because your transit time is less than 24 hours, you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit. No entry permit is needed then.
You need to apply for a free temporary stay permit at Kunming airport and then you can leave the airport.
