About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

USA-Tokyo via Pudong, Shanghai

Hi,

I am traveling from San Fran to Tokyo, but had to book two separate legs via Pudong in Shanghai.

My layover on the in, is 3.5 hour, and the return is 8 hours. I don't plan to leave the airport at all. Im confused is the transit visa something I need to print/purchase in advance, or is it all handled at the airport?

As you can enjoy the free transit policy, you don't need the transit permit actually. In case that you want to leave the airport, you can leave by applying for a temporary stay permit upon arrival and it's free of charge.
