About:China Visa Exemption

Visa for transit through Shenzhen

I have a a U.S. passport and will be transiting through Shenzhen on my way to Tokyo from L.A. Will I need a Chinese entry permit? Air China says I do.

Well, in most cases, if your layover in China is less than 24 hours, you can use the 24-hour direct transit policy and no entry permit is required, but I heard someone says that Shenzhen is an exception, so you may still need the entry permit.
