About:Shanghai Pudong Airport

If I have a 16 hour layover in Shanghai on my way back to Canada to I get free accommodation?

So you will have an overnight transfer? As I know, some airlines may arrange free accommodation for their passengers. I enjoyed it when transferring at Baiyun Airport with Southern Airlines. So you'd better consult your airline about this.
