Layover in Kunming. Do I qualify for 24 hr transit free visa.

I am a Canadian passport holder, I will be travelling from Chiangmai to Kunming (layover of 20hours) and then headed to Seoul. Will I need a travel entry permit to leave the airport? I want to leave for a hotel stay. Or do I qualify for the 24 hr free transit?
