About:China Visa

Would this qualify as overstaying?

I'll try to be as clear as I can and explain this as best as I can : I originally obtained a 2 x 30 day tourist visa in my home country. I used both entries and the 30 days on my second one ended on June 21st (the entry stamp in my passport was dated May 22nd so I was supposed to leave one day before that). I applied for an extension on June 17th (less than the suggested 7 days before my original visa was to expire).

The application was accepted, a return receipt given. I got my passport back on June 27th. The extension in my passport has an issued on date of June 23rd and I'm permitted to stay in China until July 21st.

My question is as follows : since I was supposed to leave China on June 21st (when my visa expired) but the extension was given with a start date of June 23rd, does June 22nd when I was technically without a visa count as overstaying?

The people I've been dealing with, who have been 'helping me' (they're not much help to be honest) say they've done this a million times and there's never been a problem when the person tried to leave China, no fines, no probation periods and that I wouldn't have gotten the extension in the first place if I was overstaying. That they had a person who applied for an extension on the day the original visa was going to expire and that there were no problems when that person tried to leave.

The thing is, I don't trust them entirely. Don't want any surprises at the airport but I also heard that going to the Entry and Exit Administration to ask can do more harm than good.

I'll be grateful for any and all help. Thank you.

HW, relax, as long as you submit the extension application before your visa expires, you don't overstay. Trust me, what they are saying is true. If you have overstayed, it's impossible to get this extension.

Thank you! I was under the impression that you have to submit at least 7 days before and if you're late in applying (i.e. apply at the last minute), they'll give you the extension but you still might have to pay a fine for the days between the expiration date of your visa and when the extension was issued. Thank you again!
