Transit question, 12 hour stay in Beijing

I am flying from Shanghai - Beijing - Amsterdam.
I have the Dutch nationality (therefore arriving in home country)
Till now I was in PRC on a single-entry tourist visa. I assume this expires when I leave from Shanghai.
Am I eligible for the free transit in Beijing? (therefore able to enter Beijing - I will be there just under 12 hours)

Annemiek, if your tourist L type doesn’t expire when you leave Shanghai, you can use it to go to Beijing for the 12-hour transit.
Actually, as long as you leave Beijing before the expiry date of your tourist L type, you won’t encounter any problem.

Thanks! But I have a single-entry L type. At what point do I then technically depart from China?
I thought it was in Shanghai, because I am already checked in for my next flight to Amsterdam from Beijing then...

Although you are staying in Shanghai, you can leave from Beijing. You can just leave Beijing before the expiry date of your L type.
