Do I need a return ticket to enter HK

I'm an Australian citizen and travelling on an Australian passport .. Do I need a return ticket to travel to HK??
My passport is new and still has 9 years and 11 months still on it so I'm well over the 6 months validity .. Im only wanting to stay a week or 2 but I'm not sure where I'm heading after HK .. I might go home or I might want to go to Thailand .. Hence not having a flight booked yet 😔

Melanie, if you want to play safe, I will certainly advise you to take a return ticket, but you should know that the consular officer just check occasionally and your country is not their focus. So you may take a risk. Good luck!
