Five months tourist visum

Hello. I am currently planning my trip to China and intend to arrive Mid-August and stay for 20 or 21 weeks, approx. 150 days. My idea would be to travel around for one month, stay at one place to learn Chinese for two months and travel again for 2 months. Preferably, I would not leave China during this period, but I am afraid I will not able to obtain a visum for an uninterrupted period of five months as a tourist. Could you please advise me on the most appropriate visum. Perhaps it is of relevance that I formerly was a Chinese citizen before I was adopted and acquired the Dutch nationality. Many thanks!

Julia, if you still have family in PRC, you may apply for a Q1 type or one-year multiple-entry L type. The former one is a better choice but hard to get. The latter one is possible to get even though you don't have any family in PRC any more. However, you need to exit from mainland and then re-enter to activate another stay duration because the stay duration after one entry cannot be longer than three months.

Thank you for your quick reply. I assume the Q1 visa will be difficult given the extensive requirements and my inability to show the relevant documents.
The differences in L visum confuses me. Is there a relation between the number of entries and the duration of stay, e.g. is it more likely to obtain a L visum which allows you to stay 90 days each visit if you apply for multiple entry one year valid visum? Or can you get a 90 days duration permit in case you opt for a double entry 6 months visum as well? How can you influence the duration of stay, which from what I've read normally amounts to only 30 or 60 days each visit.

Dear, based on what I know, there is no direct relation between the number of entries and the stay duration.
In most cases, one may be given a tourist L type with stay duration of 30 days or 60 days. In some cases, one may get stay duration 90 days. The consular officers will decide how many days you can get according to your travel itinerary. So anyway, you should make full preparation.
