Dear, after staying for 3 days in Shanghai, if you will fly to a third country or region rather than the last one you departed, you are able to use the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai. In this case, no entry permit is needed.

I am also told that if you take a cruise which stoping in Shanghai, you can't use the 144hrs free transit. It's strange. You should also confirm this with the cruise company.
