About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

Do I need a visa if I am flying to China then going straight to Vietnam via train?

We are planning on flying to Shanghai then getting the train to Vietnam straight away (within 24hours) Does this mean we are exempt from getting a transit permit?

Hi, Lucy! Where do you get on the train to Vietnam? If you get on from Shanghai, it's fine and you are exempted from getting a transit G type permit. If you need to go to other provinces, for example, Nanning, to take this train, you may need to apply for a G type in advance.

We would get on at Shanghai but would need to change at nanning or Beijing as there is no direct train straight to Vietnam. So we would probably need the transit F type beforehand right?
Thanks

Yes, if your total layover time in PRC is more than 24 hours, a transit G type is needed and you should apply for it in advance.
