About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

72 Hour rule (London > Singapore > Shanghai > London (home))

I am visiting Singapore then will be flying to Shanghai for 2.5 days. After that I'll be flying home.

So, flying Singapore > Shanghai > London

Will that be classed as a transit? - does the Singapore bit matter or is it only the SIN > PVG > LHR bit that is the important part?

Well, only the SIN - PVG - LHR bit matters. So it is classed as a transit. You can enjoy the 72-hour free transit.

72/144 Visa Free Transit

It seems that I will qualify for the 72/144 free transit when travelling in a couple of weeks time, which is good - thank you again for the input on this site/Q&A section. I do have a further question regarding the actual procedure.

Do I literally ask the check-i staff at check-in or do i have to make prior arrangements?

I understand that some staff may not be 100% familiar with the process, but was curious of how complex it actually is and what the likelihood of having to ask for a supervisor is.

I'm flying from Singapore > Shanghai with Qantas (China Eastern) - has anyone had any bad/good experiences of the process? any tips/advise?

Phil, when you board the plane, you should inform the carrier that you want to use the free transit and then your request will be declared to the airport immigration office. When you arrive and get off, you can apply for the free transit. it won’t be complex. Don’t worry!
