72 hour rule for Thai nationals

Hi. Just wondering if Thai citizens can benefit from the 72 hour rule. I was going to purchase 2 tickets, one for my spouse and one for me on China Eastern BKK - Shanghai - Seattle. I know I can benefit from this exemptions but I'm sure if a visa is needed for my spouse. Thanks so much!

John, I’m sorry that Thailand passport holders cannot enjoy the 72 hour free transit.
But if the layover time in Shanghai is less than 24 hours, your spouse can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit. in this case, no entry permit is needed. Otherwise, your spouse should apply for a transit G type beforehand.
