About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Tokyo - Shanghai - HK - Tokyo

Hi, I will fly from Tokyo to Shanghai, stay there less than 72h, then fly to Hong Kong for 3 days and then back to Tokyo. I can therefore use the 72h transit visa isn't it? I have an EU passport.
Thanks
Pablo

Yeah, you are right. Actually, you can use the 144h free transit policy in Shanghai so that you can extend your stay there for some sightseeing activities.

Thank you so much for your prompt answer. I'm planning also to go to Beijing later on. However if I do a Tokyo - Beijing - Tokyo the free visa scenario doesn't work since I'm directly returning to Tokyo isn't ?

Yes, you are right. The free transit rule doesn't apply to this route.
