About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

USA to Shanghai, 144 hour policy

I plan to fly from USA to Shanghai....stay 4 nights...then fly to SE Asia for 3 weeks...and fly back to Shanghai for 4 more nights before returning to USA....would the 144 visa free transit work for both entries ?
