About:Beijing Transportation

beijing yikatong

with a family of 2 adults and 3 children (none of us are large), will a regular taxi take all of us? and is it still significantly cheaper (or better) to travel by public bus or subway? Is there a different ticket price for kids? what if we get a yikatong? How do you know which taxis take them? Can you return them at the railway station before leaving?

Thanks,
Rachel

Now that you are traveling with three kids, taxi can be the best way to go. Usually, a taxi can hold at most 4 passengers. For your case, as long as you don't have much luggage, one car can be ok and just negotiate with the driver to hold you all. Good luck!

Kids lower than 1.3m can take the public transportation for free. Othersise, the fare is the same as adults. If you use metro a lot, it is best to hold the transport card for each (expect the kids with free ride). Which railway station do you refer to? I know at the entrance of BJ Railway Station (the exit close to the north square), there is a window for card returning, but usually there is a long queue.
