About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

240 hour visa - Vienne, Beijing, London

Hi - I have a British passport and am flying from the UK to Vienna for a short meeting, staying for 2 hours - then plan to fly to Beijing from Vienna, and return to London from Beijing 7 days later. Does this qualify for the 240 visa free travel.

Thank you.

Yes, of course, it does. It is just important that your flight from Beijing to London does not have any kind of landing in Vienna en route. Your itinerary has its immediate points, before and after mainland China in two different countries and that makes it eligible for 240 hour visa free transit without any doubt. Have a nice visit to China.

Thank you Jun. May i please ask a follow-up question. I have read that there may be an issue as my ticket does originate in London (as the stop in Vienna is a layover only). And because my trip is returning directly back to London from Beijing, the authorities may class the 'whole' trip as starting and ending in the UK?

You should not worry because it is only the immediate points before and after mainland China that matter and they have to be in two different countries or eligible territories. Your itinerary has its immediate points in two different countries and that is what makes it an eligible one. This is clearly written in Timatic that is available for use to check-in staff, so if any of them is in doubt, always ask for a superior. Your itinerary is eligible without any doubt.
