About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Can your third country/destination be routed back through your first country?

Hi, my wife and I are visiting Tokyo and Beijing this summer and we plan to fly from Tokyo to Beijing, and then fly back to the US after 3 days. Our flight back to the US from Beijing however has a short (3 hr) connection in Tokyo. Would this disqualify us from the 72 hr free visa?

Thank you for your help!

Chris, yes, it will disqualify you from the 72 hour free transit because in that case, after transit in Beijing, you fly back to Japan. If so, you’d better apply for a tourist L type in advance.
