About:

I will be arriving at Pudong airport and need to take a train to Nanjing.

What is the best way to get to the railway station? Also can large pieces of luggage be taken into the rail carriage?

You may take metro line 2 from PVG to Hongqiao Railway Station. Then, take a bullet train to Nanjing (about 1.5 to 2 hours). Yes, your luggage can be taken into the carriage. If they are too big to be put onto the luggage rack, you can put them in the luggage closet at the connection of two carriages. Have a nice trip! :)

Is this a direct from PVG airport to Hongqiao rail station? How long is the journey?

Um, kinda of. By line 2, you need to transfer to another carriage within the station at Guanglan Road. It is very convenient! Take it easy! And it takes almost 90min to travel between.
