About:Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport

I am traveling from the US to Bangkok with a layover at CAN.

Will I need to go through customs during the layover?

No, you don't have to go through the custom. The correct transfer procudures are Flight Arrival - Inspection & Quarantine - Transfer Procedure - Waiting & Boarding.
