144 hour transit visa eligibility??

Good day to you,
I am a US citizen travelling from the USA to Shanghai on direct flight for business for 5 days then flying from Shanghai to Qatar to catch connecting flight back to the USA. Am I eligible for 144 hour free transit? I am travelling in 10 days so I hope someone can help me very soon.
