About:Apply for China Visa in a Third Country

I'm a Canadian in Taiwan would I need to go back to Canada to apply for a visa?

Would it be possible for me to apply in Taiwan or any SAR territories?

You mean to apply the entry permit for mainland? It's possible to get it from Taiwan but you need to hire an agency to do this. OR you can go to Macau or Hong Kong to apply for it, at the Office of the Commissioner of PRC Foreign Affairs Ministry or at an agency.
