Question

Hello, I will be traveling in China in May and would like to apply for a tourist type in Bangkok before my departure. Looking at the required documents, I see proof of a hotel reservation. I will be traveling and obviously cannot have proof of hotel reservation for one month travel as I cannot decide now exactly what dates I will be where. Is this a very strict rule? Is the first night hotel bookings enough to have the entry permit?Thanks for helping. I need to know before buying my plane ticket!

Hi Bruno, if you can get an invitation letter from PRC stating that you have a place to stay in during the time you are in PRC, the hotel reservations are not required. If you can't get this letter, you have to submit hotel reservations. Generally speaking, the reservations should cover at least 2/3 of your stay in PRC.

Thank you for the answerNext question is about the length of stay with a tourist type (L). Some websites says 90 days and some says 30 days... My travel agent here (in Cambodia says 30 days...)The fact is I need 6 weeks or have to change my plane ticket...How long is exactly the L type? If they give me 30 days, can I extend on arrival?Thanks

Bruno, the longest stay duration allowed by the L type is 90 days, but if you apply from Cambodia, I'm afraid you can only get 30 days to stay. I think you can try to apply for a 45-day stay duration by providing your flight tickets bookings. The embassy will take this into consideration. If they only give you 30 days, you can extend it after arriving PRC before the L type expires.
