About:China Student Visa

Can I get regular visa instead of X2 for study abroad program?

I am from the US and planning to enroll in a study abroad program in Shanghai for 5 months (one semester). Can I get a regular visitor's type(which is good for 10 years) instead of a X2 type that expires in 6 months? I would like to travel between China and some of the other Asian countries nearby while I am there. Also a regular one is good for 10 years and I would save the trouble and additional cost of getting a Chinese one for 10 years if I want to come back for more visits.

Thank you for your help.

Ray, you can't use a 10 years L type to study. L type is for traveling purpose. X1 and X2 are for studying purpose. You have to apply for a proper type according to your visiting purpose.

Since you study less than 180 days, so you should apply for a X2. According to what I know, usually the applicants usually get single-entry X2 types. It means that you can't exit the mainland before your study is fnished. If you exit with single entry X2, then you need to apply for another one to get back to study again.
