A new Z visa for China even though I still have a valid Residence Permit. Please help me!

Does anyone have any idea of how to obtain a new Z type when you have a still-valid Residence Permit already inside your passport. I am an English teacher and recently I had to leave my first employer in PRC and returned to the United States for a personal issue, but, based on a desire, have decided to return to PRC again for employment. I recently interviewed and signed the contract with a new school in PRC. Is it possible that I can obtain a new Z type from a consulate in my country even though the still-valid residence permit is still within my passport (it will expire next September, in 2016), or will the consulate cancel my previously-issued residence permit and instead issue a new single entry Z type in its place? I ask because my first employer, who I left on good terms, issued me an Alien Work Permit, but my second employer needs a Foreign Expert Permit to start working with them, a document which I have never been issued before. Any and all help on this issue will be appreciated.

Hi, William! If you have enough time before getting back to the US, it’s advised that you cancel your work permit and get this Foreign Expert Certificate first, and then renew your residence permit. Then you can leave without problems and you don’t need to apply for another Z type outside. If you don’t have time to go through all the processes, you had better cancel your work permit as well as your residence permit before you leave. Then apply for a brand new Z type at the US. After returning, go to the exit and entry administration office to apply for a new residence permit.

I have already returned to the U.S. My Residence Permit is still within my passport and was not cancelled before I left the country of China, but is still valid until September 2016. The Z type that was placed inside my passport so I could enter China for my first employer will expire on November 25 of this week. My new employer would like me to arrive in PRC in late December to begin my new job at an international school in southern China. She has stated I need to obtain a new Z type because my last teaching job only issued an Alien Work Permit to me, and not a Foreign Expert Certificate. I worked at a training center. The new school I will work for only uses the Foreign Expert Certificate. My question is this: Is it still possible for me to get a new Z type in the United States for my next employer at the Chinese consulate with the residence permit from my last employer still inside my passport book? I did not cancel the residence permit before leaving PRC.

Dear, yeah, it’s possible for you to get a new Z type. Because your work permit will be cancelled when you left the last job, and your last employer may inform the exit and entry administration to cancel your residence permit. So you can have a try.
