About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flying soon, please help! Am I eligible for the 72-hr free transit program?

I will be purchasing 2 separate itineraries:
Itinerary 1: San Francisco to Shanghai (direct) to San Francisco
Itinerary 2: Shanghai to Osaka to Shanghai (all within the timeframe of Itinerary 1)

Essential, the two itineraries combined will be as follows:
San Francisco -> Shanghai -> Osaka -> Shanghai -> San Francisco (all flights are direct)

All the stops will be less than 72 hours. Do I qualify for the 72-hr visa waiver program?
I am a US Citizen.

Thanks!
